MESSAGE FROM LCS BOARD
Contribute Your Expertise - Board of Directors
LCS board recently ran a successful process and appointed a board member with deep financial expertise.
Following this successful appointment; as part of our ongoing commitment to strong governance and the long-term development of Lycée Condorcet, a not-for-profit organisation, the Board of Directors is seeking to further broaden its pool of expertise by welcoming parents to apply to join the board.This appointment will ideally chair the audit & risk management board sub-committee as well. We are looking for candidates with experience in risk management and compliance.
This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the life of our school and engage closely with its community. Interested parents are invited to submit a short résumé along with a brief paragraph outlining how their professional experience could support the Board’s work.
Applications should be submitted by 10 June 2026. Selected applicants will be invited to interview in the coming weeks.

A look back at Reading Week 2026, held last week around the theme “Symphony of Stories”: an inspiring interlude celebrating imagination, illustration, and the joy of reading.
Final of the “Raise Your Voice” Competition
The school final of the “Lève ta voix” competition, organised by the AAFEBS (Australian Association of French-English Bilingual Schools), recently showcased the talent and commitment of our students through expressive reading in French.
This competition invites participants to bring a literary extract to life through reading aloud, combining accuracy, emotion, and interpretation. Several students will represent our school in the next stage of the competition:
- Category Cycle 3 (Years 4–6): Reading of 2 min 30 to 3 min
Finalist: Tiffany, Year 7, with 24H sans jeux vidéos by Sophie Rigal. - Category Cycle 4 (Years 7–9): 3-minute reading
Finalist: Leyton, Year 8, with Des bleus au cartable by Muriel Zürcher. - Category High School: 3-minute reading
Finalist: Addisen, Year 12, with The Stranger by Albert Camus.
We warmly congratulate all participants for the quality of their performances and their enthusiasm, and wish our finalists the very best of luck for the next stage of the competition.
Reading Together, Growing Together
Last Friday, Reading Week created some wonderful moments of sharing between primary and secondary students, bringing together Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 11 classes around shared reading activities.
The students of 5e D, accompanied by their French teacher Cathy Halter, enjoyed a rewarding experience. The Year 8 students selected books about the Middle Ages, princesses and knights in order to share engaging and age-appropriate readings with the Year 1 students! Everyone loved the experience:

> “Everyone, both the Year 1 and Year 8 students, enjoyed the knight stories and these shared moments that we should definitely do again” (Hector).

> “Reading to the Year 1 students was an incredible experience! I really enjoyed being able to read a story to the little girls in Year 1, who were very enthusiastic and attentive. They were very curious and asked lots of questions to fully understand the story. I think they really enjoyed listening to it, and it was also a pleasure for me — an experience I would be delighted to do again!” (Marjorie).

A wonderful initiative that highlights the richness of exchanges between younger and older students, as well as the shared joy of reading. Thank you to Christelle and Alice for welcoming us.

🎨 Margaux Grappe at LCS: Two Weeks of Collaborative Illustration
For two weeks, LCS had the pleasure of welcoming French illustrator Margaux Grappe as part of an artistic residency dedicated to discovery, illustration, and collaborative work.
Coming especially from Besançon, Margaux guided the students in creating a huge, colourful mural — the longest mural she has ever painted. Throughout her stay, she generously shared her artistic world, illustration techniques, and insights into her work as an illustrator.
During our Open Day last Friday, families also had the opportunity to attend an on-stage discussion between Margaux Grappe and Patrice Possenti, Head of Primary. The artist spoke about her career, her collaborations with several publishing houses, her work for the city of Besançon — the famous illustrated tramway — as well as the different creative stages behind her projects. She also shared, as a preview, some exclusive insights into a project currently in development.
This artistic residency is coming to an end, but Margaux still has one final collaboration in store for us, which will be unveiled very soon and will bring this wonderful adventure at LCS to a close.
☀️ A Journey to Provence with Sheryle Bagwell.
As part of this wonderful conclusion to Reading Week, Australian author Sheryle Bagwell transported us, during a literary talk held in the LCS theatre, to the heart of the Provençal landscape and across the centuries.
On the occasion of the presentation of her book Letters from Provence: A Memoir, inspired in part by the famous letters of Madame de Sévigné — the iconic 17th-century figure renowned for her vivid and refined correspondence — Sheryle Bagwell delicately shared a story blending history, personal memories, travel, and the art of living.
Her reading offered LCS families and staff a genuine moment of escape, reminding everyone how books create a dialogue between cultures. Reading Week thus came to a close on a poetic note, marked by openness and the sharing of knowledge.
For those who were unable to attend this event, the book is available on Amazon as well as in selected bookstores in Sydney.
LCS Financial Assistance 2026–2027 – Application deadline: 31/05/26

Please note that this assistance is reserved for families who are not eligible for scholarships from the French government. Certain conditions apply, and any incomplete or incorrect application may potentially be rejected.
2026–2027 First Semester Canteen Registration
The canteen module on your Eduka portal will be open from Wednesday, 3 June at 8:00pm for registrations for Semester 1 2026-27. Registration closes on 02/08/2026.
Attention: Registrations from this semester will not be carried over to next year. Please remember to register your children as soon as the module opens for the upcoming school year.
2026–2027 Tuition Fees Invoice
The invoice for tuition fees for the first semester of the 2026–2027 school year will be sent during the week of 15 June 2026. It will also be available via your Eduka portal.
We kindly ask you to ensure that your Eduka account is up to date regarding all fees for the second semester of the 2025–2026 school year.

There is only today left to vote online in the 2026 consular elections.
From 31 May onwards, voting will take place exclusively in person at official polling stations, including the Lycée Condorcet de Sydney (LCS).

PRIMARY
A Great Success for the Inter-School Chess Tournament
This morning, students from Years 3, 4 and 5 had the pleasure of taking part in an inter-school chess tournament organised in the LCS Theatre in collaboration with the Sydney Academy of Chess.
This event, organised during school hours, provided students with a wonderful opportunity to represent their school in a spirit that was both competitive, friendly, and supportive. Concentration, strategy, and fair play were on display throughout the morning.
Closure of the BCD Library
Book loans will end on 30 May. Library sessions will stop from 15 June. All borrowed books must be returned no later than 15 June.
SECONDARY
The Night of Code Has Begun!
Guided by Albert Bossy and Sofian Perreau, the LCS teams taking part in La Nuit du Code are working with creativity and determination to tackle this programming challenge organised by the AEFE. Two teams have already qualified for the international selection round.

LCS SPORT
Outstanding Performance at the CDSSA Rugby Tournament
Our rugby team delivered an outstanding performance at the recent CDSSA Rugby Tournament held at David Phillips Field, the home of rugby in New South Wales and the official training ground of the Waratahs.
Throughout the day, our players demonstrated exemplary commitment, excellent teamwork, resilience, and outstanding sportsmanship against strong competition from across the tournament. The team proudly finished in second place overall, just behind Pittwater House.
This excellent result reflects the hard work, effort, and determination shown by all the players both during training sessions and throughout the tournament.
A special mention and congratulations to three of our players who were selected to represent the CDSSA at the AICES competition thanks to their outstanding performances: Augustin in Year 9, and Jack and Stéphane in Year 11.
Congratulations to the entire team for this exceptional tournament and for representing our school with such pride and professionalism.

NSW Novice Inter-School Badminton Team Tournament
This Sunday, 24 May, the NSW Inter-School Team Tournament took place, with three teams from the LCS badminton sports section taking part. The tournament brought together no fewer than 88 teams from more than 20 schools across NSW offering competitive badminton programmes. Matches consisted of two singles and three doubles games. The top two teams from each pool received awards.
The LCS teams entered in the competition were as follows:
Boys' team with Bastien, Gaspard, Pablo et Virgile, engagée en division 2 ;
mixed team with Mathilde, Lucien, Nefeli and David, competing in Division 2;
girls’ team with Angèle, Emmie, Colette and Louise, competing in Division 4.
After one loss and one win, the boys’ team played for second place in their final match, which they narrowly lost 3–2 in the decisive last doubles game. The girls’ team dominated the competition in their pool, losing only one match out of the 15 played. They therefore finished first in their pool and will be promoted to a higher division next year.
Finally, the mixed team also won a gold medal by claiming victory in their group final during the last doubles match of their final encounter, against a very strong Killara team. Congratulations to all the players for their performances and exemplary attitude throughout the tournament. A big thank you as well to the parent volunteers for their support and presence throughout the day. The badminton section’s sporting year will conclude with an outing to attend the Australian Badminton Open on 10 June with all the badminton players.

Tuesday 2 June: Cake Sale at LCS to Protect the Great Barrier Reef
Year 3 students are organising a cake sale to support the Great Barrier Reef Foundation and help protect the Great Barrier Reef from coral bleaching.
Through this wonderful and meaningful initiative, the students hope to raise awareness within the school community about environmental preservation while actively contributing to a cause that is close to their hearts.
MUSICAL TALENTS
Enriching Musical Opportunities for Young Musicians in Sydney
With growing interest from students and families in ensemble music, several local initiatives are offering young musicians the opportunity to join orchestras and chamber music groups. These programmes allow students to develop their ensemble skills, explore more demanding repertoire, collaborate with other passionate musicians, and fully experience the joy of performing together.
Among the available options, the Sydney Chamber Music Institute (SCMI) is launching a new initiative for advanced young musicians looking to deepen their artistic practice. Rehearsals will take place at the Master Music Studios in Glebe for eight to nine weeks each term and will culminate in a concert project alongside professional musicians. Five-day intensive workshops are also offered during school holidays. Applications for 2026 are open until July 30. The Sutherland Shire Youth Orchestra (SSYO) also organises intensive two-day workshops during the school holidays. Interested families can follow their Facebook page to stay informed about upcoming events and registrations.
Another opportunity for young instrumentalists is the Shire Concert Band, which rehearses every Monday evening from 6pm to 8pm at Caringbah North Public School. Further information and contact details are available on their website and Facebook page.
Finally, the prestigious Sydney Youth Orchestras (SYO) offer no fewer than thirteen different ensembles suited to a wide range of musical levels. Although auditions for 2026 have officially closed, families may still contact the organisation to submit a late application.
These various organisations provide wonderful opportunities for students wishing to continue their musical journey in a stimulating, collaborative, and high-level artistic environment.

LCS Garage sale this Sunday
The annual LCS community flea market, organized by the Parents and Friends association, will take place this Sunday, May 31st, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Come and enjoy a fun-filled day with your family, find great deals, and discover many treasures in a friendly atmosphere. Drinks and snacks will be available on site, as well as games for children so that everyone, young and old, can have a wonderful time. We hope to see many of you there.

Presentation of the University of St Andrews, Scotland: The University of St Andrews is consistently ranked among the top three universities in the United Kingdom and is particularly renowned for its International Relations programs. Rich in tradition, it is the third oldest English-speaking university in the world, founded in 1410. Scottish universities offer a different approach from the rest of the UK system — come along to learn more on Monday 1 June at 12pm, venue to be confirmed.
EHL (École Hôtelière de Lausanne, Switzerland) at LCS: The world’s leading hospitality management school, with campuses in Lausanne and Singapore, will visit LCS on Wednesday 3 June at 3pm in room D119 (see flyer). Open to all students and parents.

Holiday Tech Day: One-Day “Ethical Hacker” Cybersecurity Challenge: Open to students from Year 9 to Year 12, this challenge is a joint initiative between the University of Canberra and Cisco. Students are invited to step into the role of an ethical hacker for a day of cybersecurity exploration. The challenge aims to spark curiosity, develop problem-solving skills and introduce students to the world of cybersecurity. The cost is $95 (lunch included). “Try and Fly” Weekend! The Royal Aero Club of New South Wales is offering students of all ages the opportunity to discover the excitement of aviation during the weekend of 6–8 June. Held at Camden Airport, this event includes introductory flights, airport tours, discussions about careers in aviation and a barbecue lunch. Health Studies: A New Reform for 2027. Health studies are set to evolve once again. Following the abolition of the PACES programme in 2020 and the introduction of the PASS / L.AS system, a new reform of the first year of health studies will come into effect from the 2027 academic year. The distinction between PASS (Specific Health Access Pathway) and L.AS (Health Access Bachelor’s Degree) will come to an end. The new programme will offer a balanced degree structure made up of 50% health-related subjects and 50% another academic discipline.
