Head Line - Francophonie Week

A Day of Theatre at LCS

On World Francophonie Day, LCS and the Lycée Franco-Australien Telopea came together to present theatre performances specifically for the CM1, CM2, and 6th-grade students of LCS. The Canberra troupe performed, in front of a full audience, excerpts from works by Francophone authors such as Christian Lamblin, Anne Rocard, and Jean-Claude Grimberg.

Meanwhile, the students from our high school performed an excerpt from their play Notre Dame de Paris. This segment has already captivated the audience, and the full performance, scheduled for May, promises to be an event not to be missed.

These highlights provided an opportunity to share the passion for theatre and Francophonie in a warm and festive atmosphere. Discover in pictures these precious moments that reflect our commitment to culture and the French language.

The Francophone Dictation 2025: a spelling challenge for everyone!

On March 21, students from CE2 to Terminale enthusiastically participated in the 2025 Francophone Spelling Bee. This event, which celebrates the French language and its diversity, brought together a large number of participants, especially among primary school students.

Les meilleurs textes des catégories CE2 et CM1/CM2 ont été dévoilés lors des assemblées des 24 et 25 mars, sous les applaudissements de leurs camarades. Mais la compétition ne s’est pas limitée aux élèves : quelques parents et membres de l’équipe pédagogique ont également relevé le défi… avec des résultats variés ! 😉

Oztag Beach Tournament – Friday, April 4 at Maroubra

After several introductory sessions of Oztag in Snape Park and at school, the CE2 students will meet on Friday, April 4 at 8:50 a.m. on Maroubra beach for a big Beach Oztag tournament!

Ten mixed teams will be formed with students from all CE2 classes. A great opportunity for the children to share a fun and sporting moment together.

This tournament is also an opportunity to practice an iconic Australian sport in a unique setting: on the sand and facing the ocean!

We look forward to seeing many of you there to cheer on the players!

Toy-Swap in the CE1 Classes

All the CE1 students happily and enthusiastically participated in a toy exchange on Friday, March 14.
They each brought toys and were very happy to take home a new toy.

The children were very attentive and engaged with the topic of toy recycling in Australia, and they are all eager to repeat this experience!

A big thank you to Sandrine de Coetlogon for once again organizing a fantastic activity to teach the students how to respect our beautiful planet.

Hatching Little Wonders at LCS

Cette semaine également, plusieurs classes ont eu la chance d’assister à l’éclosion d’œufs de poules 🐓 et de canards 🦆. Les élèves ont également eu l’opportunité de s’occuper et d’observer de près des poussins et des canetons 🐥, tous plus adorables les uns que les autres.

Voyage autour du monde avec les CE1D 🌍

The CE1D students embarked on a true world tour through their presentations on countries of their choice. From Canada to Japan, passing through France, Ireland, and Vietnam, each presentation was an opportunity to explore fascinating cultures, traditions, and landscapes. A wonderful way to broaden horizons and travel without leaving the classroom!

Vaccination Y10

Dear Parents,

NSW Health will be coming to our school again this year to offer our Year 10 students the opportunity to receive their vaccinations. This vaccination day will take place on

Thursday, April 3, 2025, in the morning.

If your child is in Year 10 and you would like them to receive this vaccination, you can now provide your consent online for their routine school vaccinations.

In Year 10, students are offered free vaccinations against Meningococcal ACWY.

Vaccination will only be administered at the school if consent has been received.

How to give consent ?

To complete online consent for your child’s school vaccinations, visit: https://nswhealth.service-now.com/school or use the QR code below
Follow the steps to log in to your existing ServiceNSW account. This is the same account you may already use to renew your driver’s licence. If you don’t have a ServiceNSW account, refer to ServiceNSW to create one.
Update or confirm your personal details in ServiceNSW as required.
Complete the School Vaccination Consent Form for your child/ren. You will need to:

Enter your child’s personal details
Provide the Medicare card details for you and your child
Read the linked Parent Information Sheet and privacy statement
Provide consent

If you or your child do not have a Medicare card, you can still provide consent by completing a paper consent form. As many of our students come from abroad and do not have a Medicare card, we distributed a paper copy of the consent form to all our Year 10 students on March 24th.

This consent form must be returned to the infirmary by Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

The benefits of providing consent online:

easily update your child’s details
receive SMS and/or email notifications when vaccinations are given
faster upload of vaccination records to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)

The High School Ball – An evening to support the Terminale Gala!

Dear high school students,

Awareness projects on the use of social media created by the 5B class for the 6eme ABCD students.

As part of an awareness project on the use of social media, the 5B class created several materials aimed at the 6th grade students. The goal was to encourage the younger students to reflect on and raise awareness about the risks of uncontrolled use of social media. This initiative is part of the "Living in Society, Participating in Society" theme discussed in French class with their teacher, Cathy Halter. Guided by Mrs. Joannon, the 5B students conducted an in-depth research project in the school library, exploring the press to better understand the benefits and risks associated with social media. Through this project, they share their findings and reflections on this omnipresent digital world.

Jeanne and Joya took on the role of presenters for the project to the 6th grade students from classes A, B, C, and D.

"We might already know that you use, or will soon be using, social media. You’re probably thinking that there’s no point in listening to us because you already have an idea of the risks, or maybe you think it's ‘cooler’ to be connected. You might even think that life on social media is more exciting than real life. And if you don’t have a phone yet, you might think this doesn’t concern you just yet. But know that one day, you’ll face these choices, and that’s why we believe it’s important to talk about it with you now."

"Indeed, even though social media may seem like spaces for freedom and sharing, there is increasing evidence that excessive use of these platforms can negatively impact our mental well-being. From social comparisons and the pressure to present a perfect image to the addiction to notifications, there are many dangers that many of us don’t immediately realize. That’s why, through our presentation, we are going to show you both the good and the bad sides of social media, how they influence our mood, our way of thinking, and our relationships with others. We hope that you’ll leave with some reflections on the use of these tools and that you’ll make more informed decisions in your everyday life."

The students created fun and engaging materials such as posters, a song, a video clip, black-and-white photography, video games, infographics, and drawings.

Sport

The high school handball team is preparing for the NSW Schools Championship!

The high school's handball team continues its weekly training with the Sports Association (SA) in preparation for the NSW Schools Championship, which will take place on May 15, 2025.

A big thank you to the UNSW club, who joined a training session on Thursday, March 20th, to offer a real-life test. This encounter allowed the students to play as a full team, experiment with different positions, and face high-level opponents. The UNSW players were kind and shared valuable advice, both in attack and defense, helping our team to improve even further.

Among the UNSW club players, we had the pleasure of meeting former students from the high school's AS handball. Today, they return to the field to share their experience and, in turn, help the current high school students in this competition.

The experience doesn't stop there: another training-match with the UNSW club is scheduled for April, providing an additional opportunity to strengthen our gameplay and team spirit before the official competition.

A big thank you once again to the UNSW club for their support and sportsmanship.

Today's results: 4 wins out of 4!
Our two rugby teams and our two football teams shone on the field, each winning their match.

A performance that boosts the confidence of our rugby team, ready to fly tomorrow to the CAPR in Ho Chi Minh, full of hope and determination!

“Ars Longa, Vita Brevis (art remains but life is short)”: an original play about the Roman Underworld.

An original play about the Roman Underworld:

Co-written with students from the 5eme, 4eme, and 3eme, grade Latin classes, this play immerses the audience in a unique journey between antiquity and modernity. The plot follows a 21st-century Latin teacher who, after his death, finds himself facing the judges of the Roman Underworld. They examine the contents of his history book in order to decide his fate in the afterlife...

Rehearsals began after the completion of the script, bringing this unique project to life by combining ancient culture and theatrical creation.

The performance will take place on April 14th, during the day for students and in the evening open to the public.

"Quelle histoire?!": abold show combining history and theater

Presented by AES Comédie, this original performance is composed of various texts from different authors. The story centers around a group of teenagers tasked with a common assignment in French and History: writing a theatrical dialogue about a significant historical moment. However, an internet outage forces them to reconstruct everything from memory...

This challenge leads to a quirky and humorous reinterpretation of major historical events such as the Siege of Troy, the discovery of America, and the Storming of the Bastille, filled with numerous anachronisms. It’s an original creation where history is reinvented through the power of imagination!

The show will be performed in front of the 5th and 4th grade French and History classes next May. Public performance scheduled for May 16th and 17th.

Notre-Dame : Une Avant-Première Mémorable 🎭

Students recently performed a preview of Notre-Dame on the occasion of Francophonie Day. The performance, performed in front of the CM1, CM2, and 6th grade classes, featured elaborate costumes and remarkable vocals, captivating the audience's attention.

The rehearsals continue at a steady pace, with a dedicated educational and artistic team working tirelessly to perfect every detail.

Raïcha did an exceptional job crafting the halberds, adding a touch of realism to the production. Nadia, on the other hand, dressed each of the 26 actors, ensuring that each costume perfectly matched the period and the characters.

Intergenerational Games at the Daycare

For the second consecutive year, our Aftercare program was delighted to organize an intergenerational game session with the residents of the Maroubra retirement home. Children and adults gathered for a day filled with joy, laughter, and meaningful connections. This special event allowed both generations to bond through playful activities, fostering understanding and creating lasting memories. We are grateful for this opportunity to strengthen the ties between the younger and older members of our community and look forward to continuing this beautiful tradition!
