Featured: Reading Week
From 18 to 22 May 2026, Lycée Condorcet Sydney celebrates the joy of reading through a new edition of Reading Week, this year inspired by the poetic theme “Symphony of Stories”.
Throughout the week, students take part in a rich programme of activities designed to bring books to life in all their forms and to share the love of reading with the entire school community.
Monday: a colourful literary parade
The festivities began on Monday with a wonderful parade of book characters, bringing together students from Kindergarten to Year 5 around their favourite literary heroes. Costumes, creativity and imagination were on full display, launching this festive week in a joyful and inspiring atmosphere. Congratulations to the teachers and assistants, who enthusiastically joined in and truly embraced the spirit of the event.
The jury, made up of Camille from the Marketing Department, Anne from the BCD Library, and Margaux, guest of honour for this Reading Week, had the delicate task of selecting the winners among the participants.
Best Character Embodiment Award: Rue in Grande Section and Lily in Year 1
Originality Award: Aurora in Year 2 and Alice in Year 3
Creativity Award: Amélie in Year 4 and Anatole in Preschool
Tuesday: shared reading and a stage adaptation of The Little Prince
On Tuesday, Year 6 students presented their adaptation of The Little Prince to the Year 5 classes, offering a wonderful moment of sharing and creativity around this timeless literary masterpiece.
The day continued with the traditional Drop Everything and Read session, in which the entire school community enthusiastically took part: students, teachers, administrative staff and educational teams all paused their activities to share a peaceful moment dedicated to reading together.
Wednesday: reading marathon
The day was filled with a reading marathon, with classes such as Marie Jacquier’s Year 7 class fully embracing this wonderful literary adventure.
Thursday: reading challenge and UNICEF Prize
Les élèves de 6A et 6D participent cette année à un ambitieux rallye-lecture, encadré par Rémi Jarre, les encourageant à découvrir le plus grand nombre possible d’ouvrages empruntés au CDI. Les trois élèves ayant lu le plus de livres en français au cours de l’année recevront un prix lors de la cérémonie de fin d’année.
Through this project, students develop their independence, literary curiosity and love of reading. We invite readers to take a look at the current leaderboard and the famous “10 Commandments of the Reading Challenge” in the photos below.
Les élèves de 6B et 6C ont quant à eux participé au Prix UNICEF 2026 de la littérature jeunesse. Ce projet, proposé et organisé par Isabelle Joannon, avec l’encadrement de Marie Jacquier pour la classe de 6C et de Cathy Halter pour la classe de 6B, permet aux élèves de découvrir des œuvres engagées et de réfléchir aux grandes valeurs humaines et citoyennes portées par la littérature jeunesse.

Friday: a special open day for parents
The week will conclude on Friday with a special reading-themed open day, welcoming parents and families to join the celebrations.
On the programme: a second-hand book sale, literary encounters, reading sessions and author presentations. Families will also have the pleasure of attending a presentation by Margaux Grappe, as well as a reading by Australian author Sheryle Bagwell based on her book Letter from Provence.
A mural to be unveiled next week
Finally, we will have the pleasure of unveiling on Wednesday 27 May in the morning the mural created by Margaux Grappe in collaboration with LCS students. This inauguration will take place internally and will not be open to parents.

The canteen module on your Eduka portal will be open from Wednesday, 3 June at 8:00pm for registrations for Semester 1 2026-27. Registration closes on 02/08/2026.
Attention: Registrations from this semester will not be carried over to next year. Please remember to register your children as soon as the module opens for the upcoming school year.
2026–2027 Tuition Fees Invoice
The invoice for tuition fees for the first semester of the 2026–2027 school year will be sent during the week of 15 June 2026. It will also be available via your Eduka portal.
We kindly ask you to ensure that your Eduka account is up to date regarding all fees for the second semester of the 2025–2026 school year.
A Literary Encounter at LCS with Sheryle Bagwell
Letter from Provence : a memoir
For French-speaking parents, lovers of the French language, enthusiasts of Provence — or simply anyone who enjoys meaningful literary encounters — Lycée Condorcet Sydney is delighted to invite you to a special event on Friday 22 May.
We will have the honour of welcoming Australian author Sheryle Bagwell, who has made Provence both her second home and a profound source of inspiration.
In her book Letter from Provence, Sheryle Bagwell offers an Australian perspective on the historic villages where Madame de Sévigné once lived, renowned for the letters she wrote to her daughter from the Château de Grignan.
Echoing this year’s theme, Symphony of Stories, Sheryle will read an excerpt from the correspondence exchanged between these two remarkable women who left a lasting mark on French literature. In a moving parallel, this exchange of letters also inspired the correspondence she shared with her own mother.

About Sheryle Bagwell
Sheryle Bagwell is an award-winning journalist, broadcaster and author, recognised with the prestigious Walkley Award. Over the course of her forty-year career in journalism, she served as Economics Editor and later Executive Producer of the flagship programme Breakfast on ABC Radio National. She also worked as a senior reporter and columnist for the Australian Financial Review in Sydney before being appointed the newspaper’s European correspondent in London.
Letter from Provence (Allen & Unwin) is her second book devoted to France. Her first non-fiction book, My French Connection, was published by HarperCollins in 2006.
Sheryle and her husband now divide their time between Sydney and their home in Provence, in the south of France.
Reminder: Consular Elections on 31 May 2026
Consular elections for French citizens living abroad, to elect consular advisors and delegates, will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026 in Sydney, the same day as the LCS flea market, for in-person voting. Voters registered on the Consular Electoral List (LEC) before April 24, 2026, will be able to vote either in person or by proxy.
Lycée Condorcet will be one of the polling stations made available for this election.
For those unable to travel on election day, it is possible to arrange a proxy vote with a voter registered on the same consular electoral list.
Online voting will also be available from 22 to 27 May 2026.
The official lists of candidates, as well as all additional information, are available on the website of the Consulate General of France in Sydney.

Looking Back at the Kangaroo and Koala Competitions: a wonderful mathematical first!
During our last assembly, our school community came alive with the excitement of mathematics! For the very first time, our school took part in the famous Kangaroo Mathematics Competition (and its Koala version for younger students). This initiative fits perfectly within our mathematics development plan.
The Kangaroo is quite simply the largest mathematics competition in the world. It is the French-language version of the prestigious competition developed by the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT), creating a perfect cultural and academic bridge between France and Australia.
- From Year 1 to Year 2: the children tackled the Koala competition, specially adapted to their age group.
- From Year 3 to Year 5: older students tackled the Kangaroo challenges, competing alongside participants in an international ranking.
During the assembly, we had the pleasure of recognising the top 5 students in each category. It was a proud and inspiring moment, highlighting the commitment and logical thinking of our young mathematicians.
A huge congratulations to everyone for your participation and your outstanding results!
Closure of the BCD Library
Book loans will end on 30 May. Library sessions will stop from 15 June. All borrowed books must be returned no later than 15 June.
SECONDARY
An Unforgettable Musical Immersion at the Sydney Opera House
On 29 April, our Year 6 students had the privilege of taking part in an exceptional excursion to the Sydney Opera House to attend a concert by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. As part of our third-term unit on the instruments of the orchestra, this experience offered students a unique opportunity to bring their learning to life and discover the full richness of a symphony orchestra in performance.
The programme featured three movements from The Planets (1914) by Gustav Holst — Mars, Mercury and Jupiter — as well as the poetic and imaginative short film Philharmonia Fantastique (2017) by American composer Mason Bates. The combination of symphonic music and captivating visuals made this concert a particularly memorable experience.
Cette journée fut une véritable réussite grace à l’accompagnement de Mme Kénia Ramirez-Worku, notre professeur de musique et un immense plaisir pour tous les participants. Nous sommes extrêmement fiers de la manière dont nos élèves ont représenté l’établissement : ils ont fait preuve de respect, de bienveillance et d’un comportement exemplaire tout au long de cette sortie.
Kick-Off of the Nuit du Code
Last Friday, the Night of Code began under the attentive supervision of Albert Bossy. Once again this year, Lycée Condorcet is taking part in this international programming competition organised by the AEFE, bringing together around twenty students from Year 9, Year 11 and Year 12, along with several middle school students.
Working in teams, the participants — including an all-girls team also competing this year — must create a video game within a limited time around a secret theme. Combining creativity, logic and teamwork, this international challenge promises an experience that is both stimulating and enriching. Stay tuned in June for the final results.

LCS at the NSW European Handball Championship
This year marked LCS’s fifth participation in the NSW Inter-School European Handball Championship. After winning two championship titles followed by two runner-up finishes, our team has once again reached the top step of the podium and reclaimed the title of NSW Champions!
To secure this wonderful victory, the LCS team faced seven other schools during the group-stage matches. Our players delivered an outstanding performance, winning every single game and finishing at the top of the standings at the end of this phase.
In the semi-final, LCS faced Chatswood, who had finished fourth in the standings. Thanks to a strong collective performance, our players secured an 8–5 victory. They then went on to face Menai in the final. Focused and determined, the team controlled the match brilliantly, winning 8–4 and claiming the championship title!
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the girls from the Lycée Sports Association who, although they were unable to participate in or accompany the team during the championship, played an essential role in preparing the players by enabling 7-a-side training sessions.
We would also like to thank UNSW, which gave our players the opportunity to compete against experienced teams in highly valuable match conditions that greatly contributed to their development.
Congratulations to Alexis, Ali, André, Édouard, Mahé, Marcel, Mateo, Maxime, Paul and Virgile for their outstanding performance and their excellent team spirit throughout the competition!

Rubik’s Cube Competition – School Fair
Last Saturday, 16 May, during the school fair, the Rubik’s Cube competition stand was a tremendous success. In an enthusiastic and friendly atmosphere, nearly twenty students took on the challenge, combining concentration, speed and strategy in an attempt to achieve the best time against the clock. Cubes spun at lightning speed under the admiring gaze of the audience, while algorithms were executed with impressive mastery. The performances achieved were remarkable and reflected the talent, logic and perseverance of all participants. A huge congratulations to our young “speedcubers” for their agility, competitive spirit and contagious passion!

International Cooperation in Support of Sustainable Development
The meeting between our Year 12 SES students and a visiting Year 12 STMG class from Vanuatu provided a particularly enriching opportunity for cultural exchange, collaborative thinking and cooperation around the major challenges of sustainable development.
Working together as young Pacific economic advisors, students designed realistic and forward-thinking cooperation projects between Australia and Vanuatu aimed at addressing key ecological challenges of the 21st century, including sustainable tourism, responsible resource management and climate change adaptation.
This collaboration also gave our students valuable insight into the STMG pathway and its practical approach to management, economics and business studies, closely connected to contemporary global issues and real-world challenges.
Beyond the economic dimension, this initiative fully reflects our school’s commitment to Education for Sustainable Development and connects directly with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13 (“Climate Action”) and SDG 17 (“Partnerships for the Goals”).
An inspiring and meaningful experience that encouraged international-mindedness, cooperation and active global citizenship among our students.

A School Fair Inspired by a Journey Around the World
A huge thank you to all the parents, volunteers, teachers and members of our community who dedicated their time, energy and enthusiasm to the preparation and success of our school fair.
Thanks to you, the day was a tremendous success and a wonderful celebration for children and families alike. This year, we welcomed approximately 30% more attendees than last year, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for this unifying event that brings our entire community together.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the secondary students and to Mrs Mills for creating the magnificent “Journey Around the World”-themed photobooth, which brought a creative, artistic and festive touch greatly appreciated throughout the day. A special thank you as well to the theatre troupe for their generous involvement and enthusiasm at the popcorn stand, which was a great success with both children and adults.
Beyond the celebration itself, this type of event helps create meaningful connections, brings families closer together and strengthens the spirit of our school community. None of this would be possible without the valuable commitment and support of our parents and volunteers.
These festive moments also have a very tangible impact on the school. The funds raised during last year’s fair enabled the P&F to finance the purchase of new balance bikes for kindergarten students, as well as a professional podcast station for primary and secondary students. A wonderful illustration of the positive impact your support has on educational projects and school life.

Monash University at LCS: Monash University, based in Melbourne, is part of the prestigious Group of Eight and ranks among the top 50 universities in the world. A presentation will be held during heure de dialogue on Wednesday 27 May. All students are welcome!
Presentation of the University of St Andrews, Scotland: The University of St Andrews is consistently ranked among the top three universities in the United Kingdom and is particularly renowned for its International Relations programs. Rich in tradition, it is the third oldest English-speaking university in the world, founded in 1410. Scottish universities offer a different approach from the rest of the UK system — come along to learn more on Monday 1 June at 12pm, venue to be confirmed.

Holiday Tech Day: One-Day “Ethical Hacker” Cybersecurity Challenge: Open to students from Year 9 to Year 12, this challenge is a joint initiative between the University of Canberra and Cisco. Students are invited to step into the role of an ethical hacker for a day of cybersecurity exploration. The challenge aims to spark curiosity, develop problem-solving skills and introduce students to the world of cybersecurity. The cost is $95 (lunch included). “Try and Fly” Weekend! The Royal Aero Club of New South Wales is offering students of all ages the opportunity to discover the excitement of aviation during the weekend of 6–8 June.
