MESSAGE FROM LCS BOARD
Dear LCS community,
I am writing to share with the LCS community that Abdellatif Achiq will be replacing Nicolas L'Hotellier as our new Principal when Nicolas completes his posting with us at the end of July 2026 ahead of his relocation to Paris.
On behalf of the Board and the wider school community, I sincerely thank Nicolas for his contribution to the school and wish him the very best.. Over the past five years, Nicolas has played a pivotal role in the remarkable growth of Lycée Condorcet and in fostering the warm, dynamic, and flourishing culture we are proud of today. We are deeply grateful for his commitment and dedication.
Nicolas’ accomplishments are too many to fully capture, but a few highlights include:
the successful completion of the school’s building project in 2022
leading the development of the 2024–2029 Strategic Plan & shaping the Campus 2029 vision
revitalising and strengthening our international tracks
expanding and enhancing our college counselling and broader student support services
introducing and developing the heures de dialogue initiative
growing and broadening our sports programme and strengthening our connection within the local community.
Nicolas leaves with our deep gratitude and best wishes. Many students, families, and colleagues have benefited from his work, and we wish him every success as he begins his next chapter.
We will provide details regarding an opportunity to celebrate his contributions prior to his departure.
We are pleased to announce that Abdellatif Achiq is joining LCS as our new Principal, succeeding Nicolas.
With over twenty-five years of experience in education, leadership, and school development in both France and the French international education network (AEFE), Abdellatif Achiq brings a strong commitment to academic excellence, student wellbeing, innovation, and community engagement.
He currently serves as Deputy Principal at Lycée Français Jean Mermoz (Dakar, Senegal), where he plays a key leadership role in pedagogical development, staff support, student guidance, digital transformation, and the implementation of international academic programs ( American BFI)
Abdellatif holds a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Caen Normandy (France), as well as advanced degrees in theoretical physics and scientific education. After beginning his career in teacher training and secondary education, he successfully passed the French national competitive examination for school leadership and has since held several senior leadership positions in secondary schools in France and abroad.
Throughout his career, Abdellatif has led numerous strategic initiatives in curriculum development, inclusion, educational innovation, digital learning, staff development, and university guidance, always placing students, families, and educational excellence at the centre of his work.
As he prepares to join the LCS community, Abdellatif shares the following message :
“It is a true honour to join Lycée Condorcet Sydney and to become part of such a dynamic and internationally minded community. I look forward to meeting our students, families, staff, and partners, building on the remarkable work already accomplished, and working together to further strengthen academic excellence, student wellbeing, innovation, and the values of French international education.”

PRIMARY
Visit of the Principal of the French School of Auckland to LCS
This week, Lycée Condorcet Sydney is delighted to welcome Stéphanie Layec, Principal of the French School of Auckland, New Zealand.
The Auckland school is currently undergoing the accreditation process, and this visit is part of an initiative focused on observation and exchanges around our teaching practices and the way our school operates. During her stay, Stéphanie Layec is attending several classroom sessions, including this morning’s Year 4/Year 5 assembly, in order to discover the daily life of our school and the methods implemented with our students.
This meeting represents a wonderful opportunity to share experiences between schools within the French international network and highlights the dynamism and commitment of our educational community.
Reading Week 2026: A “Symphony of Stories” at LCS
From 18 to 22 May 2026, Lycée Condorcet Sydney will celebrate the joy of reading through a new edition of Reading Week, this year held under the poetic theme “Symphony of Stories”.
Throughout the week, students will take part in a rich programme of activities designed to bring books to life in all their forms and to share the love of reading across the entire school community.
The celebrations will begin on Monday with a grand book character parade, where students from Kindergarten to Year 5 will come dressed as literary heroes. On Tuesday, Year 6 students will present their adaptation of The Little Prince to the Year 5 classes, followed by a collective “Drop Everything and Read” session.
Wednesday will feature a reading marathon as well as the final of the “Raise Your Voice” competition, celebrating public speaking and reading aloud. On Thursday, Year 6 students will be recognised during the Reading Challenge awards ceremony.
Finally, the week will conclude on Friday with an open day for parents, accompanied by a second-hand book sale and literary events. Families will have the opportunity to attend a presentation by Margaux Grappe as well as a reading by Australian author Sheryle Bagwell based on her book Letter from Provence.
A week dedicated to imagination, sharing and discovery, promising to bring the entire LCS community together through the rhythm of stories.

RSVP for the 2026 Graduation and Gala
Thank you to the parents of our Year 12 students for taking part in the Zoom Q&A session held last Thursday.
This meeting was especially appreciated thanks to the involvement of families, whose participation helped make it a valuable moment of listening and constructive exchange.
We also remind you to confirm your attendance before May 23 for the dinner at The Calyx, which will take place during the second part of the celebrations.

Code Night is Coming Soon at LCS
Lycée Condorcet will take part in the next edition of the *Nuit du Code*, an international programming competition organised by the AEFE. The event will take place on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and will bring together Year 11 and Year 12 students specialising in Computer Science (NSI), along with a few middle school students. In total, around twenty participants will represent the school.
The challenge? Working in teams, students will have to design a video game within a limited time, based on a theme that will remain secret until the end of the competition in early June. Creativity, logic and teamwork will all play a key role. *La Nuit du Code* is a unique experience that allows students to develop their programming skills while taking on an exciting international challenge.

Thursday, May 7 at 3:30 p.m.: Exceptional Talk at LCS — Quantum Physics Between Science and Philosophy
We are delighted to welcome to our school a talk that is as fascinating as it is elusive… one that you may, or may not, attend — a nod to Schrödinger’s famous cat.
This conference, entitled “Quantum Physics: Between Science and Philosophy”, will be presented by Emmanuel Flurin, Physics Professor at UNSW and specialist in quantum physics, at the initiative of Gabriel Gay-Para, our Philosophy teacher, whose one-man show about Condorcet last March left a lasting impression on everyone. Through this event, we will embark on a search for reality, exploring concepts such as scientific determinism and the unsettling idea that time itself may not exist.
As Albert Einstein once reminded us: “Physical concepts are free creations of the human mind.” (The Evolution of Physics, 1936).
The discussion will also draw on the ideas of major thinkers such as Karl Popper, as well as Camus and Nietzsche, bringing together perspectives from both science and philosophy.

Proudly LCS: Clément Shines on the Australian Waves
Our surfing champion Clément continues his remarkable start to the season, delivering impressive performances throughout April. During the Easter holidays, he flew to Queensland to compete in the prestigious Parko Pro Junior on the Sunshine Coast. This trip was also an opportunity for him to collect two new surfboards from his new sponsor, Sharpeye, including a stunning custom board sprayed in the colours of the French flag.
During this major competition, Clément delivered an outstanding performance, reaching the semi-finals and ultimately securing an excellent 3rd place finish. This result further strengthens his 3rd position in the Australian surfing rankings. Back in New South Wales, Clément then competed in the Youth Surfing National Battle at Caves Beach, an intense four-day competition where he once again reached the final and achieved another impressive 3rd place.
Congratulations, Clément, for your consistency at the highest level and for proudly representing LCS on Australia’s beaches!
ECO LCS
When Eco-Delegates Head to the Beach…
This Monday, our eco-delegates once again proved that trips to the beach are not just about relaxing. Equipped with gloves, bags, and above all plenty of enthusiasm, our true eco-warriors collected an impressive amount of rubbish: two huge bags filled to the brim!
As with every clean-up initiative, the students took part with enthusiasm, good humour, and a genuine sense of commitment. A wonderful reminder that small concrete actions can make a big difference for our environment.
Congratulations to all of them for their exemplary commitment and involvement!
A huge thank you as well to Marion and Angélique, Camille and Ophélia, without whom this wonderful initiative would not have been possible.
LCS SPORT
Reminder: Talent Identification (IT) Programme
Registration for the Talent Identification (IT) programme selection tests for students from Year 3 to Year 5 will take place during May, with assessments scheduled between late May and early June depending on the discipline (badminton, tennis, swimming and surfing).
The families concerned have already received an email detailing the registration procedures, participation requirements, as well as the schedule for the tests and training sessions for the 2026–2027 school year.
Reminder: Sports Sections 2026–2027
Registration for the selection tests to join one of the LCS sports sections (badminton, tennis, swimming and surfing) will also take place during May, with selection sessions organised between mid-May and early June.
These programmes are designed for students who already have a strong level of sporting ability and who wish to commit to an enhanced training programme throughout the 2026–2027 school year.
The families concerned have also received an email containing all the practical information regarding registration, selection criteria, as well as the schedule for training sessions and assessments.

⚽ CDSSA Football – Looking Back on Two Days of Competition
Last Thursday and Friday, our LCS teams braved the heat to compete against the best schools in the CDSSA. Intense matches, an impressive level of play, and players who gave their all from the first whistle to the last.
Results:
U18 Boys – 6th place
U18 Girls – 3rd place
U15 Boys – 4th place
And a special mention goes to Nadya (U15/18), Antoine, Louis M and Louis R (U15), who were selected to represent the CDSSA against the best teams from Greater Sydney during the AICES competition. A wonderful recognition of their talent!
Congratulations to all the players for their team spirit and for proudly representing our school colours.

The School Fair Is Fast Approaching
The School Fair is fast approaching, and the entire team is delighted to share the key information for this wonderful day so eagerly awaited by the children!

More activities than ever this year: This year, the teams have worked enthusiastically to increase both the number and variety of activities, including:
A remote-controlled Mario Kart car race
Two inflatable castles, including an obstacle course for older children
A darts game
The much-anticipated return of the magic show, eagerly awaited by the children
Additional Activities (by popular demand from the children): In addition to the usual entertainment, several new activities are being introduced:
Badminton tournament: from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Calligraphy workshop: from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Kamishibai storytelling sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Rubik’s Cube session, led by Patrice himself, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Cinderella, Condorcet Style — AES Theatre End-of-Year Show
The AES Theatre is delighted to invite you to its end-of-year show: an original and bold reinterpretation of Cinderella, freely inspired by the work of Joël Pommerat.
Joël Pommerat is one of the most distinctive playwrights and directors on the contemporary French stage, known for his reinterpretations of fairy tales that reveal their full darkness, humor, and human depth. It is in this spirit that the students of the workshop have taken hold of this universal story to present their own version—at once funny, cruel, and deeply moving.
After a beginning of the year dedicated to improvisation and theatrical games, the group enthusiastically immersed themselves in this collective adventure. Throughout the sessions, they explored powerful and highly contemporary themes: grief, guilt, dreams, fear, and solidarity.
Do you want to laugh, cry, and be thrilled? Come along! Friday, May 15th at 7:00 p.m. (approximate duration: 1 hour) at the High School Theatre. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Free admission. School rehearsal on Tuesday, May 12th at 9:45 a.m.
Show recommended for ages 10 and up due to sensitive themes (grief, relationship to death).
The AES Theatre group meets every Tuesday from 4:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and welcomes students who wish to discover the joy of acting, develop their stage presence, and strengthen their sense of teamwork.
A big thank you to the technical team, Jérémie P. and Jérémie D. (sound and lighting), as well as to Armelle, Jérémie, Mayca, and Antony for their invaluable help in organizing and supporting this project.

In the event of a possible departure from the school, a 6-week notice period must be respected before the last day of classes, i.e. Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, in order to avoid a $400 fee. All students and parents are invited to this exceptional opportunity. The three NYU campuses will be presented, along with specific programs, the admissions process, costs, and a Q&A session.
Presentation of University College Utrecht (Netherlands): University Colleges are unique in the Netherlands: multidisciplinary learning, small class sizes, and comprehensive student support. AFFELNET High School Application Campaign for Entry into Year 10 (Seconde) in France for the 2026 School Year: The process has now started in most French education districts. Work Experience Placements for Year 10 Students from Monday 15 to Friday 19 June 2026: As part of this workplace observation program for Year 10 students, our school is currently seeking companies willing to host students for a work experience placement. If you are able to offer a placement within your organisation, we would be very grateful if you could contact Mr Vincent or Mrs Sallier at orientation@condorcet.com.au. This experience represents an essential step in helping our students discover the professional world and refine their future career pathways.

Virtual UCL Medical Sciences Taster Sessions: Would you like to learn more about Medical Sciences programs at UCL (University College London)? The academic sessions include: Applied Medical Sciences, Cancer Biomedicine, Infection and Immunity, Medicine, Medical Innovation, Nutrition, Sport and Exercise Sciences.

UNSW Girls in Business Camp – July 2026: This four-day camp, running from Monday 13 to Thursday 16 July, is open to students in Years 10, 11 and 12. Organised by UNSW in partnership with industry professionals, the program will give participants the opportunity to explore different areas of business and management, discover career pathways, connect with inspiring female role models, better understand the impact of artificial intelligence, and much more.
