A message From LCS

Dear Parents,

Let's Create Our Startups! The year 10 project Let’s Create Our Startups culminates on December 2nd through an exciting series of activities. The students will have to present a social entrepreneurship idea in line with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and develop this initial idea into a concept, and ultimately, into a business plan. They will be coached by professionals from the business world and will then present their idea to a jury that will select the winner(s), a bit like Shark Tank. You are invited to join us for the conclusion of this day and to attend the presentation of the students' projects.

There are a lot of exciting things happening with the French Schools Abroad Week coming up soon. There is more information on that below, you can also have a look at Twitch#AEFE on November 29th to get involved.

Thank you to all our teachers for guiding our students through these exciting and challenging projects.

Have a great week.
Nicolas l’Hotellier,
Proviseur / Principal

TALKS WITH MARIA LAMRANI

How about some company on the long and beautiful journey of parenthood?

Some parents of past generations would swear by the likes of D.W. Winnicott when it comes to parenting questions. The time of punishment and fearing your parents wasn’t that long ago when you think about it. However a lot of research has been done on the subject of raising children since then. Today, the interdisciplinary approach of sciences, especially in the field of education, creates new bridges between neuroscience, child psychology and holistic theories of personal development. With this in mind, LCS invited Maria Lamrani to lead workshops and meetings with parents, teachers and Maternelle teachers’ assistants. First a teacher, then a school principal, Maria obtained a master's degree in education and then became a consultant for the AEFE while leading projects that led her to work in many places, across several continents. The AEFE and the collaborations with other experts and organisations over the years have granted her both legitimacy in the theoretical and practical fields of education. Maria is well aware that the challenges of childhood are not only limited to academic learning but also to personal development, and she explores new educational sciences, the practice of mindfulness, and writes books to put into images words that are sometimes difficult to understand. Maria has also opened a coaching and consulting firm to support parents and educators in their missions. Thanks to neuroscience, today we understand better "how to accompany children in their learning and the development of their socio-emotional skills," she explains during a workshop. "Before learning subjects, you must first learn to have self-confidence, to communicate, etc., and this work must be done very early on," she continues.

  • Understand your child's brain to better understand their behaviour
  • How to manage your child's crisis with kindness
  • How to detect a learning difficulty that prevents your child from blossoming
  • Setting limits and developing curiosity
  • Separation, divorce: what to tell the children

Some key moments from Maria's discussions

  1. Conference: “Is it possible to educate our children without punishing or rewarding?”
  2. Meeting with parents to discuss her two books "Sometimes I Need You " and "What is now?"
  3. Maternelle training with Ms Lacoste, AEFE educator
Maria Lamrani at the Book Signing and Coffee Meet

FRENCH SCHOOLS ABROAD WEEK - LIVE RADIO BROADCAST 29/11 AT 2.50 pm - See article below.

ANAK -TNK: A BRIDGE FOR THE CHILDREN

ANAK-Tnk has been working for over 20 years to help the children of the streets and slums of Manila. Their priorities are: education, health, nutrition and protection. Their mission: to give the most disadvantaged children of Manila their dignity and a reason to smile! "ANAK" means "child" in Tagalog (Philippine language) and the letters "TNK" are the initials of the foundation as it is known in Manila: Tulay Ng Kabataan. This literally means "A bridge for the children". Today Stephanie will be speaking to the children in CE1D, present the organisation and help the children think about things that they can do themselves. There will also be a bake sale on Friday November 25th with the help of the parents of the class. If all goes according to plan, there will be 7 bake sales in total on the following dates:

Friday 25 November
Friday 2 December
Saturday 3 December at the Christmas Market
Friday 9 December
Friday 3 February
Friday 10 February
Friday 17 February

ENGLISH IN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Phonics has been systematically taught in Primary English at LCS for a number of years, most recently through the use of the SoundWaves Spelling program. This places our school in good stead for the upcoming updates to the K-2 (GS-CE1) English Syllabus. We hope this short text gives some insight into this learning resource for the next time your child brings home their SoundWaves book for you to view.

FRENCH SCHOOLS ABROAD WEEK #AEFE

Through an AEFE initiative that is part of the French Schools Abroad Week (SLFM), the LCS primary and secondary school teachers will organise workshops with students on November 21st and 29th.

21/11 - CARTOGRAPHY OF CONTROVERSIES

This initiative is unique to the AEFE Asia-Pacific zone, and students in our year 10 A have begun work on a global simulation: a role-playing game where they will recreate the conditions of a debate around a controversial topic, "lab meat".

They will each embody a character (an "actor") in this social debate that raises the question of the role of science in a major issue of the 21st century: how to feed the world of tomorrow. Continue exploring: VIDEO

A bit of history... A bit of history... A course on 'describing controversies' was created in the 1990s at the École des Mines (now MinesParis Tech) by Bruno Latour. Latour introduced the course in the late 2000s at Sciences Po under the name "cartography of controversies". In 2018, a partnership was initiated between Forccast and the AEFE French schools abroad with the aim to offer students a fun and educational workshop on information and media knowledge.
