The weather forecast looks to be in our favour for the moment, and we hope to be able to see you all under a warm afternoon sun this Thursday 13th at 5.30 pm for the Grand Opening of our new building.
We know some of you have had technical issues when trying to RSVP. Our apologies, you can still RSVP via the link below.
Due to this one-off event, school will end at 3.30 pm on Thursday. All extracurricular activities from 3.30 pm onwards will be cancelled (AES, aftercare, music program, Talent Identification, elite and development sports squads) and the fees for the aforementioned will be deducted from the invoices to be sent out later this week. During Book Week, which will take place between October 24th and 28th, 2022, we wish to celebrate the diversity of languages and cultures represented here at LCS. This rich cultural melting pot enforces our school values on a daily basis. Teachers will invite parents to come in to the classrooms during Book Week and read a book to the students in one of the languages their family speaks at home.
EXCURSION TO WHARF THEATRE
On Thursday the 6th of October, Moyenne Section went to the Wharf Theatre to see a show by the Bangarra Dance Theatre Company. It was their first show for children and we loved it! We had learnt all about sea turtles and their life cycle in class. We then saw this come to life in the story of Waru, the little sea turtle. We also learnt about the importance of protecting our environment and not leaving our rubbish on the ground. When we got back to school, we each made a sea turtle trapped in sea debris to remind us of the danger posed by plastics in our oceans.

YEAR 6 CAMP
Camp got off to a great (albeit wet) start. After some bonding and icebreaker activities, the students filled their bellies with lunch before groups went off to giant swings, go karting and vertical cluster. The first set of activities were amazing and seeing how much fun the students were all having, the teachers couldn't resist joining in while the kids cheered them on. Late afternoon was filled with a very lively game of grab the tag and insightful information sessions on clear and kind communication, and purposeful and safe technology use. In the evening 6ème danced the night away at a silent disco.
The next couple of days brought more physical activities, an LCS ‘survivor’ challenge, strategy, teamwork and wellbeing activities, pom pom making and knot tying, a movie night/sing-a-long and plenty of memorable moments shared.
THE AEFE NETWORK CONTINUES TO GROW
The AEFE network continues to grow with nearly 390,000 students (+2.7%, 10,000 more than in June) in 566 schools, including 17 new approved schools. The AEFE appeals to many, and has done so throughout the Covid19 pandemic as well due to our dynamic response to new measures, and our support of families. Enrolment numbers in almost all geographic zones are well above the 2019 figures. Only Asia, which has been hit hard by the Covid19 crisis, is still a little behind, but the positive numbers from the beginning of the year (+5%) give us reason to hope that it will be back to its pre-pandemic levels in the coming months.
9th EDITION OF THE OLFM ORCHESTRA
“L’orchestre des lycées français du monde” (often referred to as the OLFM) is a musical project initiated by Adriana Tanus, conductor and music teacher at the Lycée français of Madrid. The aim of the OLFM is to facilitate interactions between musicians from different schools in the AEFE global network of schools who share two passions; French and music.
The OLFM is recruiting 70 musicians from Year 6-12, with the prospect of a cycle of rehearsals culminating in a concert in Vienna, Austria, most likely during the French Language and Francophonie Week. The first auditions will take place through online videos, then the musicians will continue to exchange and work with their conductor and the artists involved with them in the project via digital tools.
The audition is scheduled soon and the application deadline is approaching. If you are interested, please contact Yumiko YAMAJI before October 24 at firstname.lastname@example.org.
